UAB Notches Two Wins on Day One of Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM – Highlighted with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Missouri State, the UAB beach volleyball team went 2-0 on the opening day of the Blazer Beach Bash on Friday.

The Blazers (16-10, 3-2 CUSA) fell behind 2-0 after the first flight against their CUSA opponent Missouri State, but then rallied to win on courts one, three and five in the second flight to secure the win.

With the match tied 2-2, UAB's Court 5 pair of Addison Atkins and Sarah Smith outlasted Missouri State 15-10 in the third set for the victory.

UAB then cruised past Tennessee Tech in its afternoon match by winning on all courts in straight sets.

Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant tied the school record with their 21st Court 1 win today, and in the process Stant moved into UAB's Top 10 for career wins with 47. Stant, Haas and Klea Sirois all share a team-best record of 21-5 this season and all three were 2-0 today.

The Blazers will honor Sirois, Ali O'Donnell and Azmabeth Infante on Saturday prior to UAB's 12 p.m. match against Austin Peay for Senior Day. The Blazers will also play Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
