BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team returns home this Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, to host five teams at the Blazer Beach Bash.
UAB will play two matches on Friday against CUSA opponent Missouri State at 12 p.m. and Tennessee Tech at 5:30 p.m., followed by Saturday matches against Austin Peay at 12 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m.
Prior to Saturday's match at 12 p.m. against Austin Peay, UAB will honor its three seniors: Azmabeth Infante, Ali O'Donnell and Klea Sirois.
The Blazes enter the weekend at 14-10 overall and 2-2 in league play. With a minimum of seven matches remaining this season, UAB eyes the program record for single season wins which was set last year with 19.
Leading the charge is UAB's Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant, who are the reigning back-to-back CUSA Pair of the Week. The duo has won six-straight matches to improve their overall record to 19-5 this season. They are currently the No. 4 ranked 1s pair in the nation according to collegebeachvb.com.
Three more wins together would establish a new school record for most single season wins by a pair, as well as most single season Court 1 wins. Four wins this weekend and they would establish a new school record for overall wins in a season.
Senior Klea Sirois also enters the weekend at 19-5 and could join Haas and Stant as the only players to reach 23+ wins in a season. Sirois has been an instant impact grad transfer who has compiled 62 wins in her career. This season, she is 7-2 on Court 3 and 12-3 on Court 4.
Despite not playing Chattanooga this weekend, the Mocs enter the tournament at 14-4 overall and represented the OVC last season in the NCAA Tournament. The Blazers have never lost to any of the four teams they will be facing this weekend (6-0 vs. Austin Peay, 1-0 vs. Missouri State, 1-0 vs. SLU).
Team records entering the weekend:
UAB: 14-10
Chattanooga: 14-4
Missouri State: 14-3
Southeastern Louisiana: 8-14
Tennessee Tech: 3-10
Austin Peay: 3-16
