Softball Wins Massive Series Against ECU

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The UAB Softball team (24-27, 10-14) defeated ECU (26-25, 11-13) 5-3 on Sunday afternoon to win the series against the Pirates.
UAB once again scored in the first inning with a run on a wild pitch. Hannah Dorsett scored her 37th run of the season! Gabby Fowler hit a two run home run in the second inning to give ECU a 2-1 lead.

UAB left seven runners on through the first three innings, including the bases loaded in the first inning. Tait Davidson came into pitch in the third inning to relieve Olivia Cummings. Lindsey Smith tied the game up in the third inning with a deep solo home run to left field.

Bella Wiggins hit her ninth double of the year to start the fourth inning. Wiggins was brought around to score because of a Hannah Miles RBI single. The home runs kept coming in the fifth inning when Lindsey Smith hit another home run in back-to-back at bats. This was her eighth home run of the season. Ashlyn Shirah hit a home run the very next at bat to extend the lead to three runs (5-2). Two of those hits came in the sixth inning, but both Sawyer and Fowler were left on base.

Tait Davidson was able to close out the game in the seventh inning, after an East Carolina single that scored Emma Jackson. UAB held the Pirates to just six base hits and two runs throughout the game.

UAB is currently in seventh place, one game behind ECU in the AAC conference standings.
The Blazers conclude their regular season at Charlotte for a three-game series starting Friday.
