UAB Beats Auburn, Completes Season Series Sweep of Tigers

AUBURN - UAB Baseball (17-12) took down No. 16 Auburn (20-9) on Tuesday night at Plainsman Park, 4-2 in front of 5,094 fans in attendance. The win was the Blazers' first win in Auburn against the Tigers since 2019. Additionally, it is the first season series sweep over Auburn since 1980, the Blazers' second season fielding a team.
Auburn jumped out in front in the bottom of the 1st. Cooper McMurray reached on an infield single to score Bristol Carter for an unearned run and put the Tigers up 1-0.
Both sides were held scoreless until the top of the 4th. Auburn native Todd Clay homered over the Green Monster in left field to score Nick Hollifield to put the Blazers out front 2-1.
The Tigers answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Rembert doubled home McMurray who also doubled. This knotted the game at two apiece.
The Green and Gold punched right back in the top of the 5th. Mayes White executed a perfect squeeze play for the second consecutive game to score Tyler Waugh from third. Then, Logan Braunschweig doubled down the left field line to score Tyler Harrington to put the Blazers on top 4-2.
Four Blazer pitchers shut down the Tigers offense in the final five innings. Tyler Haines, Brock Hill, CJ Ellis, and Ryan Olson combined to put up five straight zeroes to finish out the game. Hill earned his first win of the season and Olson picked up his fifth save.
NOTES
The Blazers return home after splitting the 4-game road trip. UAB hosts UTSA this weekend in a 3-game series beginning on Friday. First pitch from Young Memorial Field will be at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
