Blazers Shutout in Final Game of USF Series

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (10-13) dropped game three and the series against South Florida (19-8) by a score of 6-0 on Sunday morning in Tampa. South Florida won the game after nine innings of softball on a play at the plate that was reversed because of replay.

Seven runners were left on base today for the Green and Gold with Bella Wiggins being the only player to reach third base. UAB hit the ball just three times today and only five times over the last two games.

IN THE INNINGS
South Florida only scored in innings one and five putting up three runs in each. A couple of walks and three hits gave South Florida those three runs in the first. Caroline McLednon came in after the Bulls put up the first three runs and retired both batters to get out of the inning. In fact, McLendon retired her first 11 batters until the fifth inning.

A sacrifice fly scored one two by Alex Wilkes and then a solo home run scored another. The Bulls led 6-0 after five innings of play.

UAB got two base runners in the sixth inning but left them both stranded after two pop ups. The Blazers went out in order in the seventh inning to end the game at 6-0.

UAB is back in action on Tuesday, as the Blazers take on Middle Tennessee State at Mary Bowers Field.
