WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
The Blazers enter the tournament at 4-3 overall and almost upset South Carolina last week but ultimately fell 3-2 in a closely contested match. All three of UAB's losses have come by the score of 3-2, while they are a combined 19-1 in their four wins which includes a victory over conference foe Tulane.
Houston Christian enters the tournament at 5-3 overall and has a pair of résumé boosting wins over Cal State Bakersfield who is receiving votes in the national polls. UAB is 1-3 all-time against HCU, which sets up the marquee matchup of the weekend at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
After dropping their first match of the season, UAB's Court 1 pair of juniors Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant have reeled off six-consecutive wins and have a team-best 6-1 overall record. Haas is three wins away from becoming just the sixth player in program history to tally 50 career wins at UAB, and she is already the winningest Court 1 player in school history (41 and counting).
Courts two and three for the Blazers have also remained consistent as Isabel Day and Claudia Stockard have locked down Court 2, while Klea Sirois and Olivia Chychrun have occupied Court 3. Both of those pairs are 5-2 so far this season.
The back of UAB's lineup has been stabilized after an early season switch to the lineup. Recently, Azmabeth Infante and Sadie Sharpe have paired together and are off to a 5-1 start, while Addison Atkins and Ashley Torsone are a new pair that have started 4-0 together this season. Both pairs have split action on courts four and five.
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
UAB: 4-3
Houston Christian: 5-3
North Alabama: 4-4
Eastern Kentucky: 3-1
UT Martin: 2-2
New Orleans: 2-6
Aside from HCU, the Blazers have dominated their other opponents and have a combined record of 16-1 against competition they will face this weekend (3-0 vs. EKU, 5-1 vs. UNA, 8-0 vs. New Orleans).
