Beach Volleyball Goes Undefeated at The March To May

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team had a perfect 4-0 weekend at The March To May which included three sweeps and a thrilling 3-2 victory over in-state foe North Alabama.
At 8-3 overall, the Blazers are now off to their best start in program history.
UAB opened the weekend with two consecutive 5-0 sweeps over Houston Christian and Eastern Kentucky. On Saturday, UAB and North Alabama played the match of the weekend which the Blazers ended up outlasting the Lions 3-2.
Against UNA, The match was tied at 1-1 after the first flight as Klea Sirois and Olivia Chychrun got UAB on the board with a 21-14, 21-16 victory.
In the second flight, the Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant won their ninth match in a row with a narrow 22-20, 21-18 victory, but the Lions then evened the match at 2-2 with three-set victory on Court 3 by winning the final set 17-15.
With all eyes on Court 5, Addison Atkins and Ashley Torsone dropped the first set 26-24 but rallied to win the second set 21-18 which forced a third and decisive set.
The final set went back and forth, and with the set tied at 12-12, the Blazers surged ahead with consecutive points and ultimately held on to win 15-13, giving UAB the 3-2 victory.
The Blazers then concluded the weekend with a straight-set 5-0 sweep over New Orleans.
For UAB, Haas and Stant on Court 1, Sirois and Chychrun on Court 4 and Atkins and Torsone all went 4-0 on the weekend. Haas and Stant are 10-1 overall this season and have won 10 in a row, while Atkins and Torsone are now 8-0 as a pair.
Up next, the Blazers travel South for a big week against multiple ranked teams, beginning with No. 14 FIU on Wednesday, followed by playing No. 18 Georgia State, Florida Gulf Coast, Tampa and No. 12 Florida Atlantic next weekend.
