WBB Wraps up Regular Season With 66-64 Win Over Tulane

BIRMINGHAM – In the last regular-season game, UAB women's basketball (16-14, 7-11 AAC) defeated Tulane (16-12, 9-8 AAC) 66-64 on Tuesday night at Bartow Arena.
Tracey Bershers led the Blazers with 17 points while Sara Bershers followed behind with 16 points. Molly Moffitt matched her career-best with 14 points and added eight rebounds. Jade Weathersby led the Green and Gold in the rebound category with 15.
The first quarter saw two lead changes and two tied scores as each team went back and forth scoring. At the 3:37 mark, UAB led 15-11 but the Green Wave went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 19-15. Weathersby was able make a field goal to make the score 19-17 to end the first frame.
Weathersby tied the game to start the second, which was one of four tied scores in the frame. Both teams took turns scoring and the game was tied 25-25 until the Blazers made back-to-back threes to lead 31-25. Tulane was able to score the next five points to head into halftime trailing by one at 31-30.
UAB was able to maintain its lead in the third using 46 percent shooting and seven players putting points on the board. The Green and Gold had a nine-point lead at 54-45 going into the final frame.
At the 6:53 mark, UAB had its biggest lead of the game at 12 (58-46). The Green Wave then went on a 12-3 run to only trail by three (61-58). The Blazers were able to extend its lead to 66-58 with 29 seconds remaining. With 25 seconds remaining Tulane made a three, then UAB turned the ball over allowing the Green Wave to make another three to only be down by two with 18 seconds left. Tulane's Victoria Keenan had a three-point opportunity but missed as time ran out.

UAB will be the No. 8 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship, which begins Saturday, March 8 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Blazers first game will tip off on Sunday, March 9 against No. 9 seed Rice at 12 p.m. CT.
