Blazers Outlast Shockers, 11-9

WICHITA - The UAB Baseball team (16-12, 2-4) outlasted Wichita State (10-17, 3-3) on Sunday afternoon, 11-9. Both produced a combined 20 hits and 15 walks.
Logan Braunschweig wasted no time extending his on-base streak to 57 consecutive games as he led off the game with a solo shot to right to put the Blazers up, 1-0.
Camden Hayslip's first of his four RBI came on a sac fly to score Wesley Helms from third to add to the Blazer advantage.
The Blazer 1st inning wasn't done yet as Andrew Hunt reached on a throwing error to score Nick Hollifield and Todd Clay.
The UAB rally continued in the top of the 2nd. Helms dropped a bloop single into right to score Mayes White to put the Blazers up 5-0. Hayslip delivered his second sac fly of the game to score Braunschweig, and Helms scored right behind him on a throwing error to give the Green and Gold a 7-0 advantage.
The Shockers wouldn't go down without a fight. Mauricio Millan tripled down the left field line to score Gannon Snyder and Kaleb Duncan. Josh Livingston singled to center to score Millan, and Jordan Rogers doubled to score Livingston to cut the Blazer lead to 7-4.
Both teams were held scoreless from then until the bottom of the 6th. Jordan Rogers homered to right to trim the UAB lead to 7-6.
In the top of the 7th, Hayslip homered on a ball that went 461 feet and 110 mph off the bat. He drove home Hollifield to add some insurance and put the Blazers up 9-6.
The Green and Gold gave the Shockers a run in the bottom of the 7th. The Blazers made two errors on the same play to score a run. Jordan Rogers' third hit of the day was an RBI single to left to cut the Blazer lead back to one.
UAB added a couple runs in the top of the 9th. Gavin Lewis Jr tripled in the gap to score Tyler Waugh from first. Then, Mayes White executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score Lewis from third.
Rogers' fourth hit of the day scored Livingston to trim the UAB lead to 11-9.
Braxton Shelton picked up the final six outs, including a game ending 1-2-3 double play to give the Blazers an 11-9 win. Brendan Conner picked up his first career win. The freshman threw three innings out of the bullpen.
The Green and Gold travel to Auburn on Tuesday night to face off against the nationally ranked Tigers. First pitch from Plainsman Park is at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
