Blazers Struggles Continue, Fall at Wichita State, 6-2

WICHITA - UAB (15-12, 1-4) dropped its fifth straight game as the Blazers dropped another game to Wichita State (10-16, 3-2), 6-2.

The UAB offense got started early on Saturday when Wesley Helms launched his first home run as a Blazer over the left field fence to put the Green and Gold on top, 1-0.

The Shockers answered back with a home run of their own by Josh Livingston to even the score at one apiece.

The Green and Gold have been plagued by a big inning in each defeat this season. This time, that inning was the bottom of the 2nd. The first of Gannon Snyder's two hits was a double that scored Kam Durnin. The next batter was Ryan Callahan who singled through the right side to score Snyder from second and put WSU up 3-1. After a sac bunt that advanced Callahan to second, Camden Johnson singled to score Callahan to give the Shockers a three-run advantage.

Both sides were held scoreless from then until the bottom of the 5th. Kam Durnin doubled to right center to score Jaden Gustafson to add to the Shockers' lead. The next batter, it was Snyder again who singled to center to score Durnin for the second time in the game.

The Blazers got a run back in the top of the 8th. With two on and one out, Jaden Anderson came to the plate in a pinch-hit appearance, and he scored Nick Hollifield on a fielder's choice. The Green and Gold would leave the bases loaded in the 8th.

Aaron Arnold picked up his fourth win of the season for the Shockers. Jeremiah Arnett picked up his first save.

NOTES
- Wesley Helms picked up a career-high three hits including his first home run at UAB.
- Logan Braunschweig reached base twice, extending his American Conference leading on-base streak to 55 games.

The Blazers and Shockers complete the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from Eck Stadium will be at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
