UAB Falls to No. 19 Washington, No. 12 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The UAB beach volleyball dropped a pair of matches against 2024 NCAA Tournament participants No. 19 Washington and No. 12 Arizona State on Friday in Tempe.
The Blazers opened the day with a narrow 3-2 loss to the 19th-ranked Huskies, then suffered their first sweep of the season to the hands of the 12th-ranked Sun Devils, 5-0.
Against the Huskies, Washington took a 2-0 lead after the first flight with victories on courts two and four. UAB's Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant then got the Blazers on the board with a straight-set victory on the top court, 21-11, 21-19, however the Huskies secured the win with a victory on court five.
UAB's Kléa Sirois and Lauren Cairo then concluded the match with a 22-20, 21-18 victory on Court 3 to bring the final score to 3-2 in favor of Washington. For Sirois and Cairo, it was their fifth-consecutive victory.
Against ASU, the Sun Devils won courts one, two, three and four in straight sets. On Court 5, Ashley Torsone and Addison Atkins dropped the first set but then rallied to win the second 27-25 to force a third. In the third, ASU came out victorious 15-10 to conclude the sweep.
The Blazers (10-8) return to action on Saturday in Phoenix with matches against UTEP and No. 13 Grand Canyon at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. CT.
