Blazers Drop Fourth Straight, Fall at Wichita State

WICHITA - UAB Baseball (15-11) dropped its fourth straight game in an 11-1 loss to Wichita State (9-16) on Friday night. The Shockers outhit the Blazers 11-4. WSU scored 10 of its 11 runs in two innings.
The first of the two big innings for the Shockers came in the bottom of the 2nd. Logan Kreske grounded out to shortstop to score Gannon Snyder from third to give the Shockers the early 1-0 advantage. In another selfless at bat, Kaleb Duncan drove home Kam Durnin for WSU's second run of the inning. With two outs, Mauricio Millan singled home Jordan Black to put the Shockers up 3-0. The next batter was Jordan Rogers who tripled to right center to plate Millan and Camden Johnson. Then, Josh Livingston singled home Rogers for the Shockers' sixth run of the inning. WSU sent 12 men to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd.
Both sides were held scoreless from then until the bottom of the 6th. Livingston reached on a fielder's choice to plate Kaleb Duncan to put the Shockers up 7-0.
The Blazers' lone run of the night came on Tyler Harrington's RBI groundout to bring home Todd Clay who reached on an error.
Pinch hitter Jaden Gustafson singled home Snyder to bring the Shockers' advantage back to seven. The next hitter was Jordan Black who tripled home Gustafson to give the Shockers a 9-1 lead. Then, Jordan Black hit his first home run of the season to give Wichita State an 11-1 run-rule victory.
Wichita native Grant Adler tossed a complete game for the Shockers. The redshirt senior struck out four and walked one in his seven innings of work.
UAB and Wichita State will play game 2 of the series on Saturday at Eck Stadium. First pitch will be at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
