Blazers Fall 8-4 Against #16 Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (11-17) gave up seven first inning runs against #16 Mississippi State (25-5) on Wednesday but only gave up one more run the rest of the game.

IN THE INNINGS
Seven first inning runs came across the plate for Mississippi State as the bulldogs hit around the lineup. Four hits and one error helped fuel those seven runs. Lindsey Smith opened up the scoring for the Blazers hitting a two-run shot to left field. This was her fifth home run of the year.

No runs came across the plate in innings two through four. Mississippi State left ten runners on base including six in the second-fourth.

A double down the left field line by Hannah Miles was able to score two Blazers. Miles has 19 RBIs on the season which is second on the team behind Smith. After a quick sixth inning the Bulldogs added one more run to take an 8-4 lead. Both Miles and Smith finished their days two for three with two RBIs.

UAB is back in action on Friday as they host Tulsa for a three-game series Friday-Sunday.
