Women’s Basketball Hosts Charlotte on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball hosts Charlotte on Saturday, February 8. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Saturday's contest 14-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play, while the 49ers are 7-14 on the season and 2-8 in league play. The game marks the 41st time the two teams have faced each other, and Charlotte leads the all-time series 22-18.
The 49ers are coming off an 81-53 loss against Tulsa on Wednesday, while UAB fell 61-56 versus East Carolina on Wednesday.
Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding seven rebounds. Sara Bershers registered 10 points during the contest.
In the second, the Pirates continued to extend their lead and led as many as 19 points with 3:31 left to play. The Blazers then went on a 7-0 run done entirely by Weathersby to end the quarter down by 12 at 32-20.
UAB had a big third quarter and shot 58 percent to cut into East Carolina's lead. Weathersby scored nine of her 22 points in the third while Bershers had five, Eleecia Carter recorded four and Maddie Walsh added three to round out the Blazers big third quarter.
In the final frame each team went back and forth for a close game, but East Carolina still remained in front. With 39 second left, Weathersby made a layup and earned an and one to get within two at 58-56 after her made free throw. ECU made a three to go up 59-56 and Tracey Bershers had a chance to tie the game from deep with five seconds left but missed. The Pirates were then fouled and made both free throws to earn the five-point win.
Maddie Walsh leads UAB with 12.3 points per game while Journey Armstead is following behind with 11.0 points. Weathersby is averaging 9.5 points while Bershers is recording 9.3 points per game. Tracey Bershers is registering 6.1 points and Molly Moffitt is averaging 5.4 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.1 per game.
Offensively, Charlotte is led by Hayleigh Breland (13.5 ppg) and Keanna Rembert (11.0 ppg).
