Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Host East Carolina

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball hosts East Carolina on Wednesday, February 5. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Saturday's contest 14-8 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Pirates are 11-11 on the season and 3-7 in league play. The game marks the 27th time the two teams have faced each other, and ECU leads the all-time series 15-11.
East Carolina is coming off a 75-69 loss at Memphis on Saturday, while UAB fell 72-55 at Tulane on Saturday.
Maddie Walsh led the Blazers with 13 points against the Green Wave, while Journey Armstead followed behind with 12 points and added six rebounds. Molly Moffitt tallied 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
UAB was down 48-45 at the end of the third quarter, but Tulane made a three-pointer to open the final frame. No one would score until the 7:04 mark when Moffit made a free throw to make the score 51-46. The Green Wave then used a 11-2 to have a 14-point lead (62-48) and maintained a large lead for the remainder of the game. The Blazers had seven turnovers in the fourth quarter, allowing Tulane to score nine points off them and earn the win.
Walsh leads UAB with 12.6 points per game while Armstead is following behind with 11.2 points. Sara Bershers is averaging 9.3 points while Jade Weathersby is recording 9.0 points per game. Tracey Bershers is registering 6.4 points and Moffitt is averaging 5.5 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.2 per game.
Offensively, the Pirates are led by Amiya Joyner (13.5 ppg) and Jayla Hearp (11.0 ppg).
