NEW ORLEANS – The UAB beach volleyball team opened the 2025 season by going 3-2 at the Green Wave Invitational, which was highlighted by a 4-1 victory over Tulane for a massive early season conference victory.
UAB was led by courts one, two and three who all went 4-1 on the weekend. Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant played every match on Court 1, while Claudia Stockard and Isabel Day were on Court 2, and Kléa Sirois and Olivia Chychrun on Court 3.
The Blazers opened the tournament with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to three-time defending Southland Conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. With the match tied 2-2, the Islanders were able to come away with a three-set victory on Court 5 for the win.
UAB then rebounded with a decisive 4-1 victory over the host Green Wave. UAB won courts 1-4, and the win will loom large come Conference USA tournament seeding in May.
The Blazers opened day two with another close loss against Division II powerhouse Concordia University Irvine. UAB fell behind 2-0, but was evenly matched in the second flight, and could have potentially forced a third set on Court 3 with the match tied 2-2, but Concordia won the second set 32-30 which secured the team win.
UAB then cruised in its final two matches with a straight-set 5-0 sweep over New Orleans, and an additional 5-0 sweep over Southeastern Louisiana.
