Women’s Basketball Falls at Temple 63-53

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – UAB women's basketball (15-10 6-7 AAC) fell on the road at Temple (14-10, 8-5, AAC) by a score of 63-53.
Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double this season. Molly Moffitt recorded 10 points and five rebounds. Eleecia Carter saw her first collegiate start and registered nine points. Sara Bershers tallied eight points and hit a scoring milestone by earning 1,000 career points when she made a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.
UAB had an early lead at 10-4 with 7:01 remaining, but Temple went on a 14-2 run to gain the lead at 18-12. Weathersby was able to make the score 18-14 at the 1:21 mark and no one would score for the remainder of the quarter.
The Owls were the first to score in the second, but the Blazers answered back to cut into the lead by two (20-18). Each team scored, but UAB was able to tie the game 22-22 with 4:24 on the clock. Temple then used a 13-3 run to close of the quarter leading 35-25.
The third quarter was a game of fouls, with each team committing six. The Green and Gold went 9-of-10 from the free throw line and the Owls were 5-of-7 from the line. Temple was able to maintain their lead and had a 49-38 advantage going into the final frame.
The Owls had their biggest lead at 16 at the 7:36 mark and the Blazers were able to draw eight fouls in the fourth and score 10 points off free throws. However, the Owls were able to hold onto their lead despite having eight turnovers and earn the 10-point win.

UAB travels to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Memphis on Wednesday, February 19. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
