Women’s Basketball Falls at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – UAB women's basketball (15-11, 6-8 AAC) fell at Memphis (7-18, 5-9 AAC) by a score of 80-71.
Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 21 points and eight rebounds. Maddie Walsh registered 12 points, while Sara Bershers tallied 11 points. Eleecia Carter recorded 10 points on the night. Tracey Bershers hit a scorning milestone and earned 500 career points when she made a three in the third quarter.
Carter got the scoring started in the first and was able to make a three with only five seconds taken off the clock. UAB was able to remain in front for the whole quarter and closed out the frame on a 7-0 run to make the score 23-15.
The Green and Gold built their lead to as many as 13 with 8:01 on the clock in the second. The Tigers then started to close in as the score was 34-25 at the 6:02 mark. Memphis then went on a 15-0 run to close out the quarter in the lead at 40-34.
The Tigers scored the first five points of the third before Walsh and Carter were able to get points on the board and make the score 45-39. Memphis then went on a 12-0 run to have its biggest lead of the game at 18 (57-39). The Blazers answered back with a 10-0 run to make the score 57-49 and only be down by eight. To end the third, the Tigers led 65-53.
UAB began an 8-0 at the 8:41 mark to get within one (67-66) of Memphis with 4:52 left to play. The Tigers then scored six points of two made threes to be back in front by seven (73-66) and ultimately earn the 80-71 win.

The Blazers are back at home to host Tulsa for senior day on Saturday, February 22. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
