Women’s Basketball Falls at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – UAB women's basketball (14-8, 5-5 AAC) fell at Tulane (14-7, 7-3 AAC) by a score of 72-55 on Saturday afternoon.
Maddie Walsh led the Blazers with 13 points, while Journey Armstead followed behind with 12 points and added six rebounds. Molly Moffitt tallied 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
The Green Wave had a 7-1 lead at the 6:41 mark, but UAB was able score points and tie the game 9-9 with a three-pointer from Tracey Bershers with 4:08 left on the clock. Tulane took back the lead on the next play with a layup and maintained the lead the rest of the quarter. At the close of the first the Green Wave led 18-11.
In the second frame, both teams went back and forth and UAB got within three points on several occasions. With 51 seconds remaining, Moffitt made a fast break layup to make the Blazers only down by three (31-28). Tulane was able to make a layup with 24 seconds left and have a five-point lead at 33-28 going into halftime.
In the first few minutes coming out of halftime, each team took turns scoring but UAB went on an 8-1 run to get within two of the Green Wave at 42-40. Tulane was able to extend its lead by six with 3:06 remaining, but points from Jade Weathersby and Armstead made the score 48-45 heading into the fourth frame.
The Green Wave made a three-pointer to open the final frame, but no one would score until the 7:04 mark when Moffit made a free throw to make the score 51-46. Tulane then used a 11-2 to have a 14-point lead (62-48) and maintained a large lead for the remainder of the game. The Blazers had seven turnovers in the fourth quarter, allowing the Green Wave score nine points off them and earn the 72-55 win.
