BIRMINGHAM – Alejandro Vasquez and Yaxel Lendeborg combined for 48 points as UAB Men's Basketball (14-8, 7-2 AAC) ran past Charlotte (8-14, 1-8 AAC) by a score of 96-78. The duo combined to shoot 20-for-31 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

The Blazers never trailed in the contest after jumping out to an early 10-2 lead. Charlotte was able to get within one possession twice in the first half, but UAB always answered.

UAB took its largest lead of the half at 35-23 as Yaxel Lendeborg scored or assisted baskets on three-straight possessions. The 49ers were able to cut it to six, but the Blazers held a 39-30 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Alejandro Vasquez led the Blazers' scoring outburst of 57 points. Vasquez scored 17 of his 26 after halftime as the Blazers shot 22-for-33 from the field over the final 20 minutes.

Lendeborg scored or assisted each of the first three Blazer buckets in the second half to get things going on the offensive end before Vasquez took over and could not be stopped.

The Blazers built their lead to as many as 23 points after Vasquez converted a three-point play with 3:59 remaining on the clock and were able to keep their lead for the remainder of the contest, winning 96-78 over the 49ers.

NOTES

Alejandro Vasquez had his third game of 25+ points on the season, scoring 26 points on 10-25 shooting. He has scored 25 points or more seven times over the last two seasons, which leads the team.
Yaxel Lendeborg battled through illness to post another impressive line of 22 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and two blocks while shooting 10-for-16 from the field.
Lendeborg has scored at least 20 points in five of the last seven games and he has recorded a double-double in six of the last seven games.
He has also recorded at least five assists in seven-straight games.
Tony Toney scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists in the win.
Bradley Ezewiro added 13 points and eight rebounds for his fifth game in double-figures this season.
UAB scored over 90 points for the eighth time this season.
The Blazers shot 40-for-70 (.571) from the field, their highest percentage against a Division I opponent this season.
