HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UAB women's basketball (4-5) fell 81-73 at Southern Miss (7-3) on Sunday afternoon in Reed Green Coliseum.

UAB had four players in double figures, led by Sofia Munoz with a career-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and Cali Smallwood with 16 points and seven rebounds. Monae' Duffy recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Molly Moffitt tallied 12 points on the afternoon.

Southern Miss was led by Hayleigh Breland with 25 points while Morgan Sieper followed behind with 16 points. The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent from the field, 44 percent from the long range and 61 percent at the line.

Game Notes

Munoz (24 points) Smallwood (16 points), Duffy (14 points) and Moffitt (12 points) all scored in double figures to lead the UAB offense.
The game featured 18 lead changes and 11 ties with both teams holding eight-point leads at different points.
Duffy recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Duffy's 12 rebounds matched her career-high for the fifth time.
Munoz reached a career-best 24 points, four three-pointers and six free throws.
Smallwood's seven rebounds were a career-high for the junior.
UAB shot 44 percent from the field, 31 percent from three and 76 percent from the free throw line.
The Blazers led more than 20 minutes and had a five-point lead going into the fourth, but a 26-point final frame from USM flipped the control.

How It Happened

UAB jumped ahead with a 10-0 run, sparked by scoring from Duffy and Smallwood, building a seven-point lead [12-5].
The Blazers shot 56 percent in the quarter and controlled the paint 12-4.
Southern Miss stayed close behind, but UAB's offensive efficiency held to lead after the first quarter [21-17].
The Golden Eagles started the second with an 8-0 run to gain back the lead [27-25].
USM exploded with 73 percent shooting and 5-for-8 from three, shifting momentum.
UAB got four threes and seven free throws but struggled defensively and fell behind by halftime [46-42].
The Green and Gold made six in a row to tie the game in the third [48-48].
The Blazers went on an 12-2 run, as Smallwood and Moffitt hit big shots, taking their largest lead of eight [60-52].
Southern Miss got fouled late to close the gap to five heading into the final frame [60-55].
UAB responded strong coming out of halftime, holding USM to 31 percent shooting and 0-for-5 from the three-point line.
USM started the fourth with an 8-0 run to retake the lead [63-60].
UAB briefly regained control behind Munoz, who reached 20-plus points, but USM kept responding.
Southern Miss closed the game on a 10-2 run and shot 50 percent in field goals and 3-pointers to earn the win.
