BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's basketball team starts conference play on New Years Eve against Wichita State at 3:00 p.m. in Bartow Arena.

LAST TIME OUT

UAB beat UNC Asheville 72-47 on top of a 24-point performance from KyeRon Lindsay-Martin.
Four Blazers had five or more rebounds, while no one else scored in double digits.
Wichita State beat Eastern Kentucky 88-57 on Dec. 21. The Shockers have lost just once in December on the 13th against Depaul 61-58.

Wichita State leads the series 5-2. Before UAB joined the American Conference in 2023, the two teams had played just four times from 1981-2011.

UAB ranks first in the conference in three different statistical categories (fast break points, rebounding margin, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game).
UAB is 14th in the country in fast break points per game with 17.85.
UAB is 11th in rebounds per game grabbing 42.85 and 9th in offensive rebounds per game with 14.62.
Evan Chatman is 19th in defensive rebounds with 6.69 per game which is also first in the American Conference. KyeRon Lindsay-Martin is 16th in offensive rebounds per game with 3.77.
Wichita State is 16th in the country in offensive rebounds with 14.46 per game. They are also 30th in rebounding margin (+8.6).
The Shockers are one of the best teams in the conference at keeping the ball safe. They turn the ball over just 9.8 times per game which is 23rd in the country
Andy Kennedy has a 2-1 record as a head coach against Wichita State.
Coach Kennedy has won 12+ conference games every year since he has been at UAB. He has an overall American Conference record of 25-11 in two seasons.
