JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UAB men's basketball team (6-2) defeated UTEP 75-59 to wrap up the Jacksonville Classic. Jacob Meyer once again scored 20-plus points, leading all scorers alongside Elijah Jones, who also finished with 21. UAB had three more double-digit scorers, highlighted by 14 from Chance Westry. Evan Chatman led the Blazers in rebounds again. He has led UAB in rebounds in five out of eight games.

UTEP (3-4) was led by Elijah Jones, who had 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Kaseem Watson was the only other UTEP player in double figures (13).

Game Notes

The Blazers extend their winning streak to five, the longest streak since UAB opened 2025 with five straight conference victories last season.
Meyer has scored 20 points in three consecutive games for the first time since his transition from Coastal Carolina to DePaul, scoring 32 and 22 in his final games with the Chanticleers before dropping 23 in his first game with the Blue Demons.
Meyer tied his career-high with nine made field goals. Seven of his makes came in the second half as he totaled 17 points in the second stanza.
Meyer played 37:27, a game-high and his highest mark since March 7, 2024.
Kyeron Lindsay-Martin has recorded double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
Evan Chatman tied yesterday's career-high mark of 11 points. Seven of Chatman's points came from the charity stripe, a career-high for him.
Chatman played 37:23, a new career high. Chatman played the entire second half along with Chance Westry.
Ahmad Robinson had a game-high three steals, tied for his highest mark of the season.
Salim London tied his career-high in steals with two. London knocked down a three and added two assists and two rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
UAB outrebounded the Miners by 24, the largest rebound margin against a DI team since the Blazers outrebounded Chattanooga 48-23 (+25) on Nov. 13, 2017.
The Blazers shot nine threes, the least since Nov. 12, 2023, vs Maryland (nine). UAB took just three first-half three pointers, the fewest in a half this season.
The Blazers outscored UTEP in the paint 38-10, the third-largest margin in favor of UAB this season.
UAB shot 40.7% from the field (24-for-59), 22.2% from three (2-for-9), and 73.5% from the free-throw line (25-for-34).

How it Happened

A turnaround jumper from Ahmad Robinson started the scoring off [2-0].
UAB went on a 5-2 run with another Robinson jumper and two Evan Chatman free throws [9-6].
Salim London knocked down a three-pointer to get within one after a 7-0 UTEP run [12-13].
Chance Westry scored seven points in a 14-3 UAB run that opened up a seven-point advantage for the Blazers [26-19].
UTEP made four threes in the first half, including one by Kaseem Watson to make it a five-point game [32-27].
The Miners closed out the half on a 10-5 run, cutting the UAB lead to three [37-34].
UAB opened up the second half with a 6-0 run to extend the Blazer lead to nine [43-34].
Back-to-back dunks by Daniel Rivera gave UAB a nine-point lead [49-40].
UAB went on a 14-2 run featuring a fastbreak lay-in and a three by Ahmad Robinson to really open up the scoring and capped on Meyer's lone three of the game [63-44].
Meyer scored another bucket to give UAB its biggest lead at 21 points with 7:09 to play [65-44].
UTEP made one final push, making it a 13-point game with a 12-4 run [69-56].
A dunk by Chance Westry put the game away and gave UAB its fifth straight win [75-59].

Up Next

UAB will play a true road game for the first time in 31 days against old Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. on December 1.
