UAB Earns 79-66 Win on the Road at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UAB women's basketball (2-2) earned its first road win of the season with a 79-66 victory over Chattanooga (2-3) on Sunday afternoon.
The Blazers were led by Eleecia Carter with career-high 25 points. Sofia Munoz recorded 13 points while adding five assists and four rebounds. Cali Smallwood tallied 11 points while Monae' Duffy led UAB with 12 rebounds and added nine points.
Chattanooga was led by Caia Elisaldez with 25 points while Ava Card also had double-digit points with 11.

- The Green and Gold scored 20 points off turnovers, 24 points in the paint and had a 47 bench points.
- In the fourth quarter, 18 of the Blazers 22 points came from the free throw line.

- UAB shot 45 percent from the floor (23-for-51), 42 percent from deep (8-for-19) and 89 percent from the line (25-for-28).
- In comparison, Chattanooga shot 39 percent from the field (23-for-58), 22 percent from range (4-for-18) and 66 percent from the charity stripe (16-for-24).
- Sofia Munoz opened the scoring for the Blazers, but each team went back and forth until the Blazers went on an 8-0 run [16-9]
- The Mocs were able to cut into the Blazers lead to close out the first quarter [16-13].
- Chattanooga was able to get within one (16-15), but the Blazers were able to pull away with am 11-1 run in the second [27-16].
- UAB was able to continue to extend its lead and had a 16-point lead going into halftime [38-22].
- The Green and Gold shot 13-for-24 (54%) from the field, 6-for-10 (60%) from the long range and were 6-for-8 (75%) at the line in the first half.
- Both squads traded baskets to begin the third until the Blazers went on a 9-2 run [54-32].
- The Green and Gold had its biggest lead of the game at 22 in the third [54-32].
- Chattanooga was able to answer back with a 10-1 run to cut into the lead [55-42].
- Molly Moffitt made a layup to put UAB back up by 15 to close the third quarter [57-42].
- The Blazers were fouled 11 times in the fourth and recorded 18 points at the line off the fouls.
- The Mocs outscored the Blazers 24-22 in the fourth, but UAB's lead was too big [79-66].
