UAB Dominates High Point in 17-Point Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's basketball team (2-2) erupted in the second half to pull away from High Point (3-1) in a 91–74 victory on Friday night. A dominant offensive stretch after halftime helped the Blazers turn a tight game into a convincing early season win. UAB was led by Chance Westry (22), Ahmad Robinson (16), and Jacob Meyer (16). Quaran McPherson added 11 points off the bench.
High Point was led by Rob Martin and Cam'Ron Fletcher who both scored over 20 points. Fletcher grabbed a double-double, shooting 7-for-12 from the field with 12 rebounds.

- High Point started 0-for-8 from three-point range and just 4-for-14 from the field (28.5%).
- Ahmad Robinson tied his career high from deep, sinking four three-pointers.
- Quaran McPherson scored a season-high 11 points going 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
- Evan Chatman tallied two steals for a new career high.
- UAB shot 50 percent from the field (30-for-59), 30 percent from three (4-for-13) and 77 percent from the free-throw line (27-for-35).
- The Blazers made a season-high 27 free throws on the night, the most since Mar. 20, 2024 (vs. SMU).
- Chance Westry led the scoring in three out of four games to start the season with 22 tonight, his third game of the season topping the 20-point mark.
- Westry also recorded career-highs in assists (six) and free throws made (10).
- Five Blazers (McPherson, Jacob Meyer, Daniel Rivera, Robinson, Westry) scored in double figures for the second game this season (vs. MVSU).
- Two quick fouls put UAB's leading scorer, Chance Westry, on the bench just 1:42 into the game.
- Quaran McPherson came off the bench early and got four points to give UAB a 10-7 lead. McPherson also scored a season and career high at UAB with nine points in the first half.
- High Point went without a field goal from the 8:10 mark to 4:50 remaining in the first half, and UAB took advantage by building its largest lead of the period at 19–15.
- The Panthers ended the half with a 9-3 run[38-35].
- UAB jumped out to the largest lead of the night [43-58] with an 8-0 run to start the second half.
- Ahmad Robinson hit another three going 4-for-5 on the game and giving UAB a 55-47 lead.
- UAB fouled a three-point shooter twice, to give High Point six free points. The lead was cut to just one [56-57].
- The Blazers made seven straight field goals with the last miss coming at the 16:49 mark of the second half. UAB led 63-57 at the first miss, in over eight minutes, at the 8:01 mark.
- The Blazers closed the night on a dominant 28–15 run, with Jacob Meyer and Chance Westry powering the surge. The duo combined for 20 of UAB's final 28 points, sealing the win with an emphatic finish.
- UAB closed the game with a thunderous dunk from Chance Westry to secure an 18-point win [91-74]
- The Blazers are back at Bartow Arena Monday night, hosting Rhodes for a 6:30 p.m. tip.
- Rhodes is 2-0 after beating Hendrix and Boyce College.
