American Conference Names Two Blazers to Weekly Awards List

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer collected two American Conference weekly awards on Monday, as Ava Mills won Defensive Player of the Week and Lauren Lucero earned honorable mention.
Mills played a major role in the 2-0 shutout at Florida Atlantic on Sunday. The junior defender held the backline strong to secure the shutout and only allowed the Owls to have four shots on goal despite holding a 54-46 possession advantage. Mills also got the Blazers on the board first in the 16th minute for her fourth goal of the season and fourth career goal.
Lucero assisted both of UAB's goals at FAU. The junior forward found Mills in the 16th minute to put the Blazers up 1-0 and then set up another just 14 minutes later, assisting Avery Berryman on a goal in the 30th minute to double the lead. She now has four assists on the season, which is tied for first on the squad, and six career assists.
The shutout marked the fifth of season and first conference shutout.
Up next, the Blazers host Temple on Thursday, October 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
