CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UAB men's soccer team (3-7-1) travels to North Carolina (7-1-4) for the last non-conference game of the season on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
The last time out for UAB saw the Blazers outshot Charlotte in the first half but lose against a good conference team 5-0. The Blazers are tied for 8th in the conference currently with only six teams making the conference tournament this year.
The Tar Heels are coming off three straight wins without allowing a goal. North Carolina has scored eight goals over the last three games and has allowed just six goals all season.
Scouting the Tar Heels
The Tar Heels have been in and out of the rankings all year and currently find themselves receiving votes for the second straight week. Nacho Abeal and Gabriel Bracken Serra lead the team with four goals each. Nacho also leads the team assists with eight and four in the last three games. UNC is 1-0-4 in conference ties only beating Louisville on October 3. In goal, Andrew Cordes has started all 12 games allowing just six goals all season and a 0.829 save percentage.
Series History
North Carolina leads the series 2-1 with a 1-0 win last year at the beginning of the season. The last time the two teams saw each other before that match was in the year 2000. The two programs met previously in 1999 and 2000 before renewing the series in 2024. Two out of the three matchups have been played in Birmingham.
Common Opponents
UAB and North Carolina have played both Memphis and Louisville. UNC defeated Louisville 1-0 and Memphis 3-0, while UAB dropped both games.

Sept. 29
Mabon recorded five saves in a 4-0 shutout win over Missouri State, he also recorded an assist on a long punt to Tony Kim.
Doh was named as an honorable mention for the week with a top bins goal against Missouri State. He hit a half volley from 35-yards that hit the cross bar and went down into the goal. Danslet scored a goal in UAB's 4-0 win over Missouri State and helped earn the shutout.
Sept. 9
Ole Jessen received the Defensive Player of the Week Honors playing in all 180 minutes on the week, scoring two goals from his outside back position. Humphrey Doh grabbed American Conference honorable mention for his three assists against USC Upstate.
