Women’s Basketball Hosts Memphis on Wednesday Night

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball hosts Memphis on Wednesday, January 8 in Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Wednesday's contest 9-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while Memphis is 3-10 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The game marks the 57th time the two teams have faced each other, and the Tigers lead the all-time series 34-22.
Memphis is coming off an 73-71 loss against North Texas on Saturday, while UAB fell against Wichita State 82-70 on Saturday.
Maddie Walsh led the Blazers with 19 points, while Sara Bershers recorded a season-high 16 points. Journey Armstead registered 15 points and added five rebounds and five assists. Molly Moffitt led UAB in the rebound category with a career-high 13 rebounds.
The Blazers led the first two quarters, but the Shockers used a big third quarter to grab the lead and maintain it the rest of the game. The score was tied five times in the third and saw four different lead changes. WSU grabbed the lead at 55-54 with 2:38 left and would not let go of it the rest of the contest.
Each team went back and forth but Wichita State shot 50 percent in the fourth to keep its lead.
Walsh leads UAB with 13.1 points per game while Bershers is following behind with 10.5 points. Armstead is averaging 10.1 points while Jade Weathersby is recording 8.5 points per game. Rayne Tucker is averaging 8.3 points and Tracey Bershers is registering 6.3 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 8.5 per game.
Offensively, the Tigers are led by Tilly Boler (17.5 ppg), DeeDee Hagemann (16.0 ppg), Alasia Smith (12.5 ppg), Hannah Riddick (11.5 ppg), and Tanyuel Welch (10.0 ppg).
