UAB Travels to Tulane on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball travels to Tulane on Saturday, February 1. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Saturday's contest 14-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while the Green Wave are 13-7 on the season and 6-3 in league play. The game marks the 35th time the two teams have faced each other, and Tulane leads the all-time series 23-11.
Tulane is coming off an 68-52 victory against Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, while UAB earned a 76-73 road win at Wichita State last Saturday in overtime.
It was the second consecutive game UAB has gone into overtime. The Green and Gold earned a 63-56 win against Rice last Wednesday at Bartow Arena.
Sara Bershers led the Blazers with season-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-9 in field goal range and 5-of-6 at the 3-point range against the Shockers. Journey Armstead recorded 17 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Jade Weathersby registered her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Tracey Bershers tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
In overtime, UAB took an early lead with two made free throws from Armstead. The Green and Gold led as many as six at the 3:45 mark, but Wichita State was able to cut the six-point lead in half with a 3-pointer. With 1:17 left, the Blazers led 73-71 and WSU had several chances to score but were not able to. Armstead drew a foul and made both free throws to make the score 75-71 and was then fouled again and made one of her free throws (76-71). Shocker, Jayla Murray, made a layup at the buzzer to make the final score 76-73.
Maddie Walsh leads UAB with 12.6 points per game while Armstead is following behind with 11.1 points. S. Bershers is averaging 9.8 points while Weathersby is recording 9.0 points per game. T. Bershers is registering 6.2 points and Molly Moffitt is averaging 5.3 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.4 per game.
Offensively, the Shockers are led by Sherese Pittman (12.9 ppg), Amira Mabry (12.7 ppg), Kyren Whittington (11.2 ppg), Victoria Keenan (10.7 ppg) and Kendall Sneed (10.6 ppg).
