Women’s Basketball Welcomes Wichita State on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball hosts Wichita State on Saturday, January 4 in Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Wednesday's contest 9-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Wichita State is 6-9 on the season and 0-2 in league play. The game marks the fourth time the two teams have faced each other, and the Shockers lead the all-time series 2-1.
Wichita State is coming off an 93-83 loss at Memphis on Wednesday, while UAB fell at UTSA 67-56 on Wednesday.
Rayne Tucker led the Blazers with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and added six rebounds at UTSA. Journey Armstead also scored in double figures with 13 points.
With 8:10 on the clock in the fourth, Maddie Walsh made a layup to tie the score 50-50 and drew a foul for an and one. Walsh made the free throw to give the Blazers their first lead of the game (51-50). The Roadrunners grabbed the lead back and the Green and Gold would lead one more time (54-53) at the 6:41 mark. In the last six minutes of the frame, UAB committed five turnovers, and UTSA went on a 14-2 run to earn the 67-56 win.
UAB shot 42 percent for the game, while the Roadrunners shot 45 percent. The Green and Gold scored 32 points in the paint and 17 points off turnovers.
Walsh leads UAB with 12.7 points per game while Sara Bershers is following behind with 10.1 points. Armstead is averaging 9.7 points while Jade Weathersby is recording 8.7 points per game. Tucker is averaging 8.6 points and Tracey Bershers is registering 6.6 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 8.9 per game.
Offensively, the Shockers are led by Jayla Murray who averages 11.5 points and Salese Blow who records 11.4 points per game.
