LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers picked up their second-straight road win at South Florida on Wednesday. Christian Coleman scored 21 points while Tony Toney added 18 as UAB downed the Bulls, 92-83.
YEAR TWO YAX
Yaxel Lendeborg is posting even more impressive numbers during his second year at UAB. He is averaging 16.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists so far this season for the Blazers, leading the team in each category. He is the third Blazer (Carlos Williams, Andy Kennedy) to open a season with three straight games with at least 20 points. Lendeborg earned AAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a pair of wins over Tulane and Florida Atlantic.
APPROACHING HISTORY
The Blazers have won 112 games over the last five seasons, approaching a program record for the most wins over any five-year stretch. The previous record of 117 was set from 1981-1986.
SMOOTH LIKE "BUTTA"
One of the few homegrown players on the UAB roster that did not transfer in from another school, Efrem "Butta" Johnson had a breakout year in 2023-24. Johnson upped his scoring average from 3.5 points per game during his freshman season to 11.2 as a sophomore while taking a much larger role. He hit a team-high 56 three-point field goals while shooting at a .359 clip in 2023-24. After a slow start to this season, Johnson had a breakout game against High Point where he matched his career high of 21 points and hit five three-pointers.
GET TO THE LINE
The Blazers were one of the best teams in the country at getting to the charity stripe in 2023-24, finishing eighth in the country in free throws made per game at 17.8. This year, the Blazers are again getting to the free throw line at a high rate. UAB is 90th in the nation with 15.4 free throws made per game and 73rd in the country at 75.1 percent from the charity stripe.
