UAB Women’s Soccer Defeats Southern Miss 1-0 to Close out Non-Conference

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UAB women's soccer earned its third win of the season on Sunday afternoon, downing Southern Miss by a score of 1-0.

"We are very proud of the girls today," head coach Lisa Mann said. "To pick up an important away win in difficult circumstances shows just how special this group is. Traveling away and playing in the heat is always challenging, but the girls stuck together and found a way to get the win."

Sydney Bolinger's first half goal in the 33^rd minute was the difference in the match. Bolinger's goal was assisted by Anika Toth who took a free kick for the Blazers. The goal was the second goal that Bolinger has recorded this year.

For Toth, the 1-0 win was the third shutout of the season and 10^th of her career. Her assist marked the first of her colligate career.

UAB nearly had a second goal early in the half as Avery Berryman's shot was saved by USM keeper Kesaia Bruni in the top right of the net.

The Golden Eagles had many chances in the match, but the UAB defense was able to hold on. The Blazers keeper, Toth, had six saves on the afternoon.

Up next, UAB travels to San Antonio, Texas, to begin conference play at UTSA. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.

"We are very pleased with our non-conference games," Mann said. "Each team has really tested us and prepared us for our second season in the AAC. We are excited to see what this group can achieve."
