Volleyball Preview: Tulsa and Memphis

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Volleyball team opens conference play this Friday night against Tulsa. The game will be played in Bartow Arena at 7 p.m. central time. UAB will then travel on the road to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Tigers at 1 p.m. Sunday.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
The Blazers are on a four game losing streak with their last win coming September 13th against North Alabama. The likes of Auburn, Samford, and South Alabama came to town last weekend and swept UAB. Tulsa is 8-4 on the season, but are sitting on a three game losing streak after dropping games to Oklahoma, Kansas, and Purdue. The Golden Hurricanes have played five Power Four teams through the first 12 games. Tulsa will make the 637 mile flight this weekend to start American Athletic Conference play in Birmingham. Tulsa was featured as the 10th ranked team in the American Athletic Conference Preseason poll.
SERIES HISTORY
UAB and Tulsa have met 16 total times with the Golden Hurricanes holding a 13-3 record. UAB played Tulsa last year as part of their first year in the American Athletic Conference and lost 0-3. The Blazers have lost 10 straight to Tulsa, dating back to 2009.
UAB will also play on Sunday as they travel to Memphis, TN. Memphis holds a 36-22 record against UAB including winning the last four. UAB last won a game against the Tigers in 2012.
Memphis were chosen 9th in the AAC Preseason poll. Last year Memphis finished 7-12 in the conference, good enough for a 4th place finish in the east division.
