Men’s Golf Ties for 7th at Graeme McDowell Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the 2024 Graeme McDowell Invitational at Limestone Spring Golf Course this week.
The host Blazers were led by true freshman Jonathan Ericsson, who notched a top 20 finish by tying for 18th overall at -4 and carded a career-low 68 in the first round.
Other highlights included Morgan Slaton sinking the tournament's only hole-in-one on the par three seventh during the second round, and senior Paul Bruce firing a career-best 64 (-8) in round two, which was the second lowest round of the tournament.
Following Ericsson, Will Stelt (who was playing as an individual) finished the tournament at -2 and in a tie for 25th, while Paul Bruce tied for 29th and was one shot behind Stelt at -1.
Freshman Bernhard Koster and junior John Bruce each shot +1 and tied for 36th overall, and Morgan Slaton rounded out the team scoring in a tie for 42nd at +2.
Trace Bracknell and Blayne Armstrong also competed as individuals as Bracknell finished in 59th (+7) and Armstrong 76th (+21).
UAB shot ten under for the tournament, which was highlighted by collectively shooting -13 as a team in the second round.
North Alabama and ULM shared the team title at -30 and Xing Luo of North Alabama won the individual title at -16.
The Blazers are back in action in two weeks at The Carolina Cup hosted by USC Upstate Oct. 6-7 in Spartanburg, S.C.
