BIRMINGHAM - Former Blazer Brewer Hicklen has been called up by the Milwaukee Brewers on September 1, 2024. He is the sixth Blazer to get the call to The Show.
This is Hicklen's second appearance on a Major League roster with the first coming in 2022 with the Kansas City Royals. Hicklen appeared in six games and had four at-bats. Hicklen is set to make the start in right field Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Hicklen spent the 2024 season with the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. He had 93 hits, 71 runs scored, 68 RBI, and 21 home runs across 105 games for the Sounds. He also had 42 stolen bases which was tops in the International League.
He became UAB's highest ever draft pick when he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. During his time as a Blazer, he ranked sixth in career triples (10) and 10th in stolen bases (39). He also was slated to play for the Blazers on the gridiron for the 2017 season upon being drafted.
In 2017, Hicklen was named to CUSA All-Conference Second Team following a team-best .328 average, 43 runs, six triples, eight home runs, 31 RBI, 109 total bases, .586 slugging percentage, 25 walks, .422 on-base percentage and conference-best 17 stolen bases.
Following the 2016 season, he earned Conference USA All-Freshman Team, just the 14th player in program history to earn the distinction. He also started all 55 games for the Blazers.
Hicklen was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three straight seasons.
