UAB Women’s Basketball Signs JUCO Guard Journey Armstead

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball head coach Randy Norton announced the signing of JUCO guard Journey Armstead on Monday. Armstead is a 5'8 guard who spent two seasons at Hutchinson Community College.
"Journey is a dynamic point guard that can score from anywhere on the court," head coach Randy Norton said. "Her elite athleticism and ability to make plays on both sides of the ball will make an immediate impact on our program. Journey is a winner and will bring leadership on and off the court. She has a strong work ethic and love for the game. Journey will be an outstanding addition to our program and make an immediate impact as we continue to compete for championships on and off the court."
For the 2023-24 season, Armstead averaged 10.1 points per game and was named First Team All-Jayhawk Conference performer. She appeared in 37 games and made 36 starts. She helped her team win the 2024 NJCAA National Championship with an 88-80 victory over Northwest Florida State. Armstead was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
The 5'8 guard dished out a career-high 11 assists in the win against Seward County, which tied for fifth-most assists in a single game in Hutchinson program history.
For her sophomore season, Armstead had a total of 373 points, 188 assists (5.1 per game), 159 rebounds (4.3 per game) and 80 steals (2.2 per game). Her 188 assists for a single season are ranked fourth in program history, while her 5.1 assists per game rank second in the league.
With her help, the Blue Dragons went 37-0 overall and 24-0 in conference play.
In Armstead's first season with the Blue Dragons, she recorded 299 points (9.6 per game), 127 rebounds (4.1 per game), 141 assists (4.5 per game) and 47 steals (1.5 per game). The Tulsa, Oklahoma native saw action in 31 games while making 30 starts.
Armstead played a role in helping her team go 23-8 overall and 17-7 in league play for her freshman season.
For her career, she has tallied 672 points, 329 assists, 286 rebounds and 127 steals. Armstead is tied for third in Blue Dragon career assists.
Before Armstead began her collegiate career, she attended Charles Page High School and finished her career as one of the most decorated Lady Sandite's in school history. Armstead finished her career with 1,525 career points and was named to the All-State Team. She also earned a spot on the State All-Tournament Team and All Frontier Valley Conference First Team in 2022.
Armstead is joining Cali Smallwood, Rayne Tucker and Eleecia Carter as the fourth transfer for the 2024-25 season.
