UAB Volleyball Releases 2024 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball has announced the upcoming 2024 Season Schedule. With 14 opportunities for fans to see the Blazers compete at Bartow Arena, including two SEC opponents, crosstown rival Samford, and several AAC matchups.
"The 2024 season is bound to be an exciting one," said head coach, Betsy Freeburg. "We are looking forward to playing a tough non-conference schedule that includes a lot of in-state matchups and two SEC matches in Bartow Arena. It is our year to host the second Annual Alabama Showdown, and we are looking forward to a great week of volleyball before heading into the AAC Schedule."
The Green and Gold enter year two in the American, where they finished in the top half of the conference in aces and a national ranking in triple-doubles. This season, they welcome three signees to the roster as they compete in an in-state heavy schedule, complete with a postseason run in the first AAC tournament in four years.
NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
The Blazers open the season facing two SWAC opponents. UAB invites Alabama State for an exhibition on August 23before welcoming Alcorn State the following week, facing both opponents for the first time in five years. The Green and Gold then welcome their first SEC opponent in Mississippi State following the Braves on Friday.
UAB makes its first road trip to Louisville, where they face Bellarmine, Cincinnati, and IUPUI for the Knights' tournament on Sept. 6-7 before traveling to Florence, Alabama, to compete in the UNA Volleyball tournament the following week.
The Blazers will return to Bartow to host the Alabama Showdown, featuring Samford, Auburn, and South Alabama. UAB previously faced off in the showdown last year, facing Auburn and South Alabama in Mobile. The Green and Gold will now host, with a chance for bragging rights in the Yellowhammer state.
AAC SLATE
UAB follows the non-conference run with an AAC opener versus Tulsa in Bartow on Sept. 27 before taking a trip to rival Memphis on Sunday. The Green and Gold will revisit these two later in the season Oct. 25 (Tulsa) and Nov. 6 (Memphis).
Following the road trip to Memphis, UAB will travel to Tulane, facing them in New Orleans for a mid-week meeting before returning to Bartow to face Wichita State in the first week of October. Following this, the Green and Gold host two more home matches versus Temple and Charlotte on October 11 and 13 before traveling to UTSA on the 18th.
Following a home match against Tulane and a road trip the weekend of Oct. 25, the Blazers welcome UNT and ECU in November. They travel back on the road for the final three matches against Rice, FAU, and South Florida before preparing for the AAC Volleyball Tournament hosted by Wichita State in Kansas.
