BIRMINGHAM – UAB's Adela Wasserbauerova has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, the league announced on Wednesday.
"I'm so proud and happy for Adela," head coach Mark Tjia said. "She is so deserving of this honor, especially in our first year in the AAC. Especially because this is one of the strongest tennis conferences. Adela has always been one of our best players but this year she really stepped up her commitment, leadership, and level of play to an unprecedented level. It's a great honor for her and for our program."
Wasserbauerova finished the 2024 season with a team-high 21 overall singles wins and 15 dual match victories. Of her 15 dual wins, 13 of those were at the No. 1 position and two at No. 2 spot.
The Hlinsko, Czech Republic native helped secure the Blazers win over then No. 58 Wichita State with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Shocker Natsumi Kurahashi. It was UAB's first ranked win since 2014 and the 12th ranked win in program history.
In the AAC tournament, Wasserbauerova helped UAB advance to the second round with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Temple's Frasser Kawaratani. She also secured a 6-4, 6-2 win against Panna Bartha of FAU. Both wins were at the No. 1 position.
UAB ended its season 13-11 overall and 1-2 in league play and advanced to the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
