IRVING – UAB Softball's Leigha Kirby and Lindsey Smith were selected to the AAC Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. The two upperclassmen helped the Green and Gold to a sweep over North Texas, including a shutout in the series opener.
"We are so proud of Leigha and Lindsey for being recognized for their stellar performances in our series sweep over a really good North Texas team," said head coach AJ Daugherty. "Both of these student-athletes represent our program in a first-class manner, and we sure are proud to call them Blazers."
Kirby posted a total of nine strikeouts over the weekend, nearly matching her career-high with eight versus North Texas on April 5. In that same game, she held the Mean Green to zero runs to give the Blazers the go-ahead victory to kickstart the series.
Smith's performances defensively and offensively for the Green and Gold were equally impressive for the Blazers. The junior tallied five hits on nine at-bats on the weekend, including a 2RBI home run to give the Blazers the first runs of the game in the team's shutout on April 5.
Defensively, Smith maintained a perfect fielding percentage, totaling eight catches, four putouts, and turning a double play in the team's walk-off win Saturday.
The AAC Honor Roll recipients join the Blazers on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. to take on the Auburn Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field.
