Blazers Conclude Regular Season at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE – UAB Track and Field concluded their weekend at the Outdoor Music City challenge with multiple personal bests, event wins and updates to the program record books.
DAY ONE
The Green and Gold opened the weekend with qualifiers. Freshman Gabby Washington opened the event with a top-ten finish to qualify for the 200m final. In long jump, Corinne Ball would also advance to the finals on Saturday, placing tenth.
In distance, Kathleen Schellman placed seventh in the 5k with a 17:30.7. Lia Castillo finished with a personal best in the 1500, along with Lidia Longo.
In throws, Tia Espinoza and Mya McDanal set personal bests in discus and javelin. McDanal would throw a 43.63m, finishing first and placing third all-time in the program record books for the event.
DAY TWO
The second day of the meet saw more notable performances across the board for the Blazers. Gabby Washington opened up the day with a 11.84 to set a personal best and qualify for the next round in the 100m dash with Alayah Dozier. Washington then qualified for the final with a 11.66 and finished top ten in the 200m with a 24.16.
In hurdles, Jasmine Dereje finished top eight with a fifth-place finish and personal record in the event.
In field events, Birthe Franck-Petersen finished top ten in shot put, throwing a 13.08, and Trinity Fellows also finished top ten in pole vault with a 3.45m.
