UAB Falls to Shockers in Six Innings

WICHITA – UAB Softball concluded the second game of the series, losing 9 to 1. The Green and Gold left five on base and totaled three hits.

The Blazers fell to a record of 21-23 and 12-8 overall.

IN THE INNINGS
Wichita State struck early with three hits in the first inning, including back-to-back doubles, resulting in three runs batted in to lead three to zero in the first inning. The Blazers would be unable to conclude the first few innings with hits, however, Wichita State would not let up, delivering three more hits in the second inning, including a 3RBI homer to lead 6-0.

The Blazers entered Caitlin Russell in the circle for the Blazers, to which WSU responded with a double to left center, their third double of the game. Following the pitching change and hit, the Shockers delivered an RBI double down the left-field line to increase the lead to seven runs. In the top half of the third, the Blazers delivered a base hit, courtesy of Alyssa Aguilar. A walk for Auburn Dupree put the Green and Gold on the corners but were unable to capitalize.

The Shockers drew an early out in the top of the fourth before Lindsey Smith delivered a solo homer to left field. Ant Henderson drew a walk after a groundout to the shortstop, followed by a fielder's choice to close out the inning. The Shockers responded with a base hit before the Green and Gold closed out the bottom half of the inning with three outs. The Blazers added another hit in the top of the fifth before Wichita responded with a hit in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth inning, the Blazers entered the inning with a HBP and fielder's choice. The Green and Gold left one stranded after a flyball out and ground out to third. The Shockers then entered the inning with a double to center field before WSU sent a 2RBI homer to left field to conclude the game 9-1.

IN THE BOX

Olivia Valbak falls to a record 4-7. She faced 11 batters.
The Blazers delivered three hits. Lindsey Smith was the sole batter to draw an RBI.
UAB totaled the night with 15 putouts.
