UAB Splits a Pair of 3-2 Matches at Horned Frog Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas – The UAB beach volleyball team played two highly competitive matches which it split by identical scores of 3-2 on the opening day of the Horned Frog Challenge at TCU.
The Blazers opened competition with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, then rebounded to defeat UC Davis 3-2 in their second match. UAB is now 6-4 overall this season.
Senior Jessica Ennis and freshman Isabel Day went 2-0 on Court 2 for the Blazers, while Court 3-5 all went 1-1 and Court 1 finished 0-2 on the day.
With her first win of the day, Ennis moved into the Top 10 for career wins at UAB and now has 46 victories which ranks her ninth all-time.
Against TAMCC, Court 5 saw Olivia Stant and Lauren Mohler take a 21-19, 23-21 victory as the two teams were tied at 1-1 entering the second flight.
UAB fell behind 2-1 with a straight set loss on Court 3, but Ennis and Day evened the match with a 21-18, 15-21, 15-13 victory.
It all came down to Court 1, and after winning the first set 21-19, Arden Copping and Jasmine Haas dropped the second set 21-16 and eventually suffered a heartbreaking 16-14 loss in the third set.
Against UC Davis, Court 4 got UAB on the board as Olivia Chychrun and Addison Atkins took a 21-17, 21-19 victory. Like the first match, the two teams were tied at 1-1 entering Court 1-3.
Following a loss to TAMCC, Court 3's pair of Brooke Pertuit and Madeline Sigmon rebounded nicely against UC Davis with a straight set 22-20, 21-16 victory to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead.
Ennis and Day clinched the match with a 21-15, 26-24 victory on Court 2, and with the contest already decided, UC Davis took Court 1 in straight sets to make the final score 3-2 in favor of UAB.
The Blazers are back in action on Saturday against No. 5 TCU at 3:30 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 5:30 p.m.
