Tyler Waugh Hits Walk Off Home Run to Beat UT Martin

The Skyhawks started off fast with a two run home run by Andrew Fernandez.
UAB has been scoring early and often as the bats started off hot in this one. The Blazers grabbed three runs in the 1st. Tyler Waugh started off the scoring when he drove in Darryl Bugs on a sac fly. Gavin Lewis Jr. then singled up the middle, scoring Smallwood and Braunschweig.
The Blazers would go on to score the next seven runs. UAB scored in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings, extending the lead to 11-2. Most notably, Gavin Lewis Jr. went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. UAB totaled three home runs in the game. The first came in the 5th inning by Tyler Harrington, the 2nd in the 6th by Brayton Brown, and the 3rd was the walk off by Tyler Waugh.
UT Martin mounted a very strong comeback starting in the 8th inning. A bundle of walks helped the Skyhawks score, as well as, two errors from UAB. UT Martin scored five in the 8th.
UAB's Ben Abernathy came into pitch in the 9th inning. The Blazers got the first two outs, but then Cole Smith came up to bat with two men on base. The score was 11-8 Blazers leading. Smith hit a three run shot to tie the game and send this one into extras. In extra innings Ben Abernathy got three straight fly outs. The Blazers then came up to bat needing a run to win the game. Tyler Waugh stepped up to the plate and delivered a solo home run to right field.
Next Game
The Blazers will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to face Belmont University for a weekend series starting Friday at 4:00.
