Game two
Game two started out fast with two runs in the 2nd inning. UAB scored first on a groundout to shortstop by Tyler Harrington. ECU then scored on a fielding error by UAB and then again in the 3rd inning when Ryan McCrystal singled through the right side.
The Blazers made two huge plays on defense to keep the scoring to a minimum in the 2nd inning. The first was a hard hit ball back to Braxton Shelton, that he was able to handle and get the out at first. The second was a diving stop by Alex Cheeseman that also got a runner out at first.
UAB and ECU both scored two runs in the 5th inning to make the score 4-3 Pirates. UAB scored first with a Darryl Buggs sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. The second run scored on a fielding error by the Pirates second baseman. ECU scored their two runs on a groundout and a fielding error.
Brooks House entered the game in the 6th inning retiring all nine batters he faced. We talked to House after the game to get his thoughts on the performance: "I was trying not to think too much, as I was warming up. All I was thinking was I need to throw the ball in the zone and let ECU hit it and trust my defense. We were still in the ballgame and still had a very good chance to take the lead and win". We also asked about how he was able to retire all nine batters he faced: "I had very good command on my fastball and slider tonight. Those two pitches were pretty much all I threw besides my change up here and there". House allowed zero runs, striking out two batters.
Final Score
UAB 3, ECU 4
