UAB Hosts 2024 UAB Spring Invite

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field returns to Birmingham to host the 2024 UAB Spring Invite at the UAB Track & Field Complex. The meet will take place March 29-30, featuring multiple teams across numerous states competing over the weekend.
The Blazers come off an eventful weekend, where the Green and Gold finished with over ten top ten finishes, including an update to the freshmen record books. The team looks to build upon this weekend by hosting over 15 teams for UAB's sole home meet.
With the day starting with field events, Mya McDanal frontlines the Blazers in javelin throw on Friday after a PR performance at Mississippi State last week. In jumps, seven ladies in Green and Gold will appear, including Corinne Ball, who placed top ten last week.
On the track, the Blazers start the weekend with distance. The distance squad enters with five runners in the 3K, including standout freshman Katie Keur. In addition to Keur, Kyra Hayes, Lia Castillo, Anna Behmer, and Kathleen Schellman will appear in the 3K. In the 1500, Lia Castillo will be the sole Blazer competing.
The following day features a full slate of events, starting with throws, where Tia Espinoza and Birthe Franck-Petersen will have a showing in discus and shot put. Following field events, running will begin with Relays, then follow with hurdles, where several Blazers will compete in the 100 hurdles.
In the 100m Dash, Alayah Dozier appears for the Blazers as the sole runner in Green and Gold. In the 200, Gabby Washington and Jasmine Dereje competed in the 200m.
