Baseball Wins in Shutout Fashion

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team picked up a game one win against Lindenwood. The Blazers shutout the Lions despite giving up nine hits.

The game started out with both teams retiring their first three batters. There was only one base runner through the first two innings with the first hit coming in the 2nd inning by Lindenwood.

Blaye Berry made his 5th start on the year pitching 23.2 total innings. Berry did not allow a run, but did allow seven hits and one walk. Berry did strike out eight Lindenwood batters helping him get out of a couple of jams.

Neither team would score until the 6th inning when Logan Braunschweig hit an RBI single to left field which scored Nick Hollifield. Another run scored on a Lindenwood error. Blazers led 2-0 in the 6th inning. UAB scored again in the 7th inning, this time on a Tyler Harrington double to left field. The Lindenwood left fielder dove for a hard hit ball by Harrington which scored Gavin Lewis Jr. from 1st base.

Lindenwood left 11 runners on base, in part because of situational hitting. Berry was able to get timely strikeouts when Linenwood did get base runners.

Ben Abernathy and Brock Hill came in to relieve Blayze Berry and both did a phenomenal job allowing no runs. Both Hill and Abernathy struck out two batters, allowing no hits or walks.
