UAB Women’s Basketball Falls at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The UAB women's basketball team fell on the road at Tulsa Wednesday night by the score of 84-72.
The Blazers move to 18-9 overall and 9-6 in AAC play, while Tulsa improves to 19-8 overall and 9-5 in league play. The Golden Hurricane's shot 49 percent on the night and held UAB to 43 percent.
Denim DeShields and Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 17 points, with DeShields being 7-of-13 from the field and Weathersby on 8-of-11 in field goal range. Mia Moore also reached double figures with 13 points and led UAB with eight rebounds.
Weathersby scored eight points in the first quarter with Moore and DeShields following behind Weathersby with seven points. UAB shot 11-of-18 from the field and were 3-of-5 in the 3-point range. The Blazers shot 61 percent in the first quarter and held Tulsa to 35 percent. UAB headed into the second quarter leading 28-19.
Tulsa came out with some momentum in the second half and ultimately scored 23 points and shot 64 percent. The Blazers had a 41-40 lead with 1:04 left on the clock, but Delanie Crawford made a field goal to give Tulsa 42-41 lead heading into halftime.
Tulsa went on a 5-0 run to open the third quarter and force a timeout. UAB was 6-of-16 and shot 46 percent and scored a total of 15 points in the third frame. The Golden Hurricane's kept their lead the entire quarter, but the Blazers narrowed it to five at 61-56 heading into the final frame.
Tulsa continued its red-hot shooting in the fourth and shot 50 percent in the frame to pull away for the victory.
UAB returns to action on Saturday to host North Texas. Tip is set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
