Baseball Drops Game in the Plains

AUBURN - The Blazers baseball team traveled to Auburn on Tuesday night to face the Tigers. UAB lost the game 7-2 after out hitting the Tigers 6-3.

UAB got on the board early in this one with a run in the top of the 2nd. Brayton Brown walked and Jake Smallwood bunted to get on base. On a double steal, both advanced, while Reed Latimer was up to bat. Latimer scored Brown after he hit a grounder into second base.

In the 3rd inning Alex Cheesemen gets his first hit of the season as the Blazers left two on base. Auburn's Ike Irish then homered in the bottom of the 3rd for his second home run of the season.

UAB pitched six different guys, none of them facing more than eight batters. The Blazers walked a combined 10 batters in the game. Most notably, John Luke Marlin went 2.0 innings with 4 K, 0 BB, and 0 H. Auburn also pitched six different guys. Both teams are really looking to find out what they have in their bullpens this year.

Both teams had a hard time getting into a hitting groove as Auburn scored another in the 6th inning. UAB hung around until a three run 7th inning by Auburn, which put the tigers up 7-1.

Alex Cheeseman drove in Nick Martinez in his first action as a collegiate player in the top of the 9th. The score ended at 7-2 Auburn.

The Blazers will host Southeastern Louisiana this weekend for a three game series beginning Friday.
