UAB Softball Goes 2-3 at South Alabama Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB softball team finished the South Alabama Invitational with a record of 2-3 this weekend in Mobile.

The Blazers (3-6) opened the tournament with a 12-8 victory over Northern Illinois on Friday, and then fell to the Huskies 5-1 on Saturday Morning. UAB rebounded on Saturday afternoon to defeat Central Michigan by the score of 6-1.

On Sunday, UAB fell to Eastern Kentucky 4-2 in its first game of the day and then concluded action with a 2-0 loss to South Alabama.

In UAB's opening win of the tournament against NIU, freshman Hannah Dorsett had a day, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and scored three runs. Fellow freshman Olivia Cummings picked up her first collegiate win in the circle as she made a relief appearance and was credited with the win.

In the victory over Central Michigan, the Blazers only collected two hits but were able to score six runs as CMU had six errors in the contest.

Against EKU (who is now 9-0 to open the season), Lindsey Smith hit her second home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, but EKU then plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning for the 4-2 victory. '

The Blazers return to the field on Wednesday at crosstown rival Samford, followed by hosting the Green and Golf Classic beginning on Friday morning at Mary Bowers Field.
