Softball Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The UAB softball team defeated IUPUI 11-0 in five innings then fell to Mississippi State 6-2 on the final day of the Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament in Starkville.
Lindsey Smith shined on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a single, double, triple, home run and five RBI in the two games combined. Overall, UAB finished the Alex Wilcox Tournament with a record of 1-3.
UAB 11, IUPUI 0 (Five Innings)
Smith drove in UAB's first five runs with a three-run shot in the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run double in the third.
The two-run double was the first of six runs for the Blazers in the third as UAB led 9-0 after three. Following an Alyssa Aguilar RBI single, pinch hitter AJ Kramer hit a three-run homer to give the Blazers a commanding lead.
Kaily Collett added a two-run home run in the fourth and UAB would ultimately run-rule the Jaguars for its first victory of the season.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 6, UAB 2
The two teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Mississippi State plated three runs on a pair of singles.
The Blazers got one run back in the fourth as Hannah Dorsett reached on a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then came home on a throwing error by MSU.
However, The Bulldogs scored one run in the fourth on an RBI double and two unearned runs in the fifth. Hannah Dorsett's RBI groundout in the sixth was the game's final run which made the final score 6-2.
The Blazers return to action next weekend at the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile. UAB will face NIU, Central Michigan, EKU and South Alabama next weekend.
